Trained as historian of 19th and 20th century, I am interested in the history of Europe, specifically of Italy and Germany in their global dimensions. In my PhD project (Freie Universität Berlin, 2017), I investigated citizenship policy in the German and Italian colonial empires by adopting a comparative perspective to answer the question of how two ‘late’ European nation states and colonial powers dealt with the heterogeneous populations of their colonies. At the same time, my work has analysed entanglements of colonial citizenship on different levels; the administrative as well as the scientific. Currently, my research focuses on popular militarism and sociability in Imperial Germany and its global entanglements, taking shooting associations in the metropole and in the colonies as object of investigation.
